Switching to Thumbnail View

In any Explorer panel, look for the view mode toggle in the panel toolbar. RcloneView offers three view modes:

List View — detailed columns (name, size, date, type)
Tree View — folder hierarchy navigation
Thumbnail View — image preview grid

Click the Thumbnail View icon to activate it for the current panel. RcloneView fetches preview data for images in the current folder and renders them as a grid. This works for common image formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, and others supported by the underlying cloud provider's thumbnail API.

Use Cases for Photographers and Designers

Culling a photo library: A wedding photographer with 3,000 RAW+JPEG pairs stored in Google Drive can switch to Thumbnail View to visually scan the JPEGs, identify the selects, and drag them to a separate delivery folder — all without downloading the files or opening Lightroom.

Reviewing client-delivered assets: A graphic designer receiving image assets from a client via Dropbox can preview the thumbnail grid to quickly confirm the right files arrived before starting work.

Thumbnail View with Multi-Panel Layout

Combine Thumbnail View with RcloneView's multi-panel layout for a powerful visual workflow. Open two panels: Thumbnail View on the left showing your source folder (e.g., dropbox:/Shoots/Raw/), and List View on the right showing your delivery folder (e.g., google-drive:/Client Deliverables/). Visually select images in the thumbnail grid and drag them directly to the destination panel — a fast, visual cull-and-deliver workflow entirely within cloud storage.

Use Ctrl+Click to select multiple images in Thumbnail View, then right-click for bulk operations: copy, move, download, or get public link. All the standard file operations available in List View work the same way in Thumbnail View.

Provider Compatibility Notes

Thumbnail View relies on the cloud provider's ability to serve image previews via the API. Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive provide thumbnail URLs natively, making preview rendering fast. S3-compatible providers (Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Cloudflare R2) serve raw image data without a dedicated thumbnail API — previews are generated from the raw image, which may be slower for large files.

For best performance in Thumbnail View, browse folders with a reasonable number of images at a time (50–200 per page) rather than attempting to render thousands of thumbnails simultaneously.

Getting Started

Download RcloneView from rcloneview.com.
Connect your photo storage provider (Google Drive, Dropbox, S3, etc.) via New Remote.
Browse to your image folder in the Explorer panel and click the Thumbnail View icon.
Use Ctrl+Click to select images and drag-and-drop to move or copy them between panels.
