Cloud Storage for Civil Engineering Firms — Project Files, Survey Data, and Backups with RcloneView

Keep drawings, survey data and closed-out projects safe across several clouds without scripting a single command.

A mid-sized civil engineering firm may juggle active road-design projects on Google Drive, client deliverables in Box or OneDrive, and years of closed-out archives on a NAS. Each location has its own interface, which makes consistent backups hard. RcloneView brings all of them into one window so you can copy, compare and schedule transfers visually.

Why Engineering Data Needs a Multi-Cloud Approach

Engineering projects produce large, mixed file sets: CAD drawings, GIS exports, point-cloud scans, calculation spreadsheets and signed PDF packages. Clients often dictate where deliverables must live, so a single provider rarely covers everything. RcloneView connects to 90+ providers, so Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, Amazon S3 and your local NAS can all sit side by side in the Explorer.

Adding cloud remotes in RcloneView for an engineering firm

RcloneView mounts AND syncs 90+ providers from one window, on Windows, macOS, and Linux, so field laptops and office workstations share one workflow.

Archive Closed Projects to Low-Cost Object Storage

Once a project closes, its files rarely change but must be retained for years. Copy the finished project folder from your active workspace to an S3-compatible bucket such as Backblaze B2 or Wasabi using the dual-pane Explorer, or drag and drop between remotes. Moving between different remotes performs a copy, so the original stays intact until you verify the result.

Verify Deliverables with Folder Compare

Before deleting anything from a working drive, run Folder Compare between the source and the archive. Filters show left-only, right-only and different files, so you can confirm that every drawing set made it across. Run a Dry Run on any sync job first to preview exactly which files would be copied or deleted.

Schedule Nightly Backups of Active Projects

Create a sync job from your project share to a second cloud and add a crontab-style schedule so backups run after hours. Scheduling requires the PLUS license; manual jobs, Job History and 1:N sync to multiple destinations work on the FREE license. Job History records status, size and file counts for each run, giving you an audit trail.

Getting Started

  1. Download RcloneView from rcloneview.com.
  2. Add remotes for your active workspace, your NAS and an archive bucket.
  3. Create a sync job from active projects to the archive, and run a Dry Run first.
  4. Add a schedule (PLUS) and review Job History after the first runs.

Protecting years of engineering records no longer needs a custom script.
