Fix DigitalOcean Spaces Connection Errors — Troubleshoot Endpoint and Key Issues with RcloneView
Most DigitalOcean Spaces connection failures come down to three settings: the endpoint, the region, and the access keys.
You added a Spaces remote, but the bucket list is empty, or every request returns access denied or a signature error. Because Spaces is an S3-compatible service, the cause is usually a small mismatch in how the remote was configured. RcloneView lets you inspect and correct the remote, then retest from the same window.

Manage & Sync All Clouds in One Place
RcloneView is a cross-platform GUI for rclone. Compare folders, transfer or sync files, and automate multi-cloud workflows with a clean, visual interface.
- One-click jobs: Copy · Sync · Compare
- Schedulers & history for reliable automation
- Works with Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, S3, WebDAV, SFTP and more
Free core features. Plus automations available.
Check the Endpoint and Region First
Spaces endpoints are region specific, in the form <region>.digitaloceanspaces.com, for example nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com. If the endpoint region differs from the region where the Space was created, requests fail even when your keys are correct. Open Remote Manager from the Remote tab, edit the remote, and compare the endpoint against the region shown in your DigitalOcean control panel.
Use the bare regional endpoint, not the Space-specific URL that includes the bucket name. Adding the bucket name to the endpoint is a common reason for odd "bucket not found" results.
Verify the Access Key and Secret
Spaces uses its own access key pair, separate from your DigitalOcean API token. Pasting an API token into the key field is a frequent mistake. Regenerate a Spaces key pair if you are unsure, then paste both values again, watching for leading or trailing spaces that slip in when copying.
If listing works but uploads fail, the key may lack write permission on that Space. Create a key with the right access and update the remote.
Test from the Built-in Terminal
RcloneView includes a Terminal tab in the bottom Info View. Run rclone listremotes to confirm the remote exists, then rclone about "myspaces:" or a simple listing to see the raw error text. The exact message tells you whether the problem is authentication, endpoint, or network.
Check the Log tab and Job History for repeated failures. If errors appear only on large transfers, lower the number of file transfers in the job's Advanced Settings to ease the load.
Rule Out Network and Time Problems
A signature error can also come from a system clock that is far off, since signed requests depend on the current time. Correct your clock and retry. Corporate proxies and firewalls that inspect TLS can break connections too, so test from another network if the keys and endpoint look right.
Getting Started
- Download RcloneView from rcloneview.com.
- Open Remote Manager and edit your Spaces remote; confirm the regional endpoint.
- Re-enter the Spaces access key and secret.
- Test with a small folder copy, then re-run your full job.
A correctly configured endpoint and key pair turns a vague failure into a reliable, repeatable workflow.
