Migrate from MEGA to Google Drive or OneDrive — Complete Transfer Guide with RcloneView

MEGA's free tier is generous, but if you're switching to Google Drive or OneDrive for better integration, you need to move years of files without losing anything. Here's how.

MEGA has been a popular choice for its 20 GB free tier and end-to-end encryption. But many users eventually switch to Google Drive (for Workspace integration) or OneDrive (for Microsoft 365 compatibility). The challenge is migrating years of accumulated files — photos, documents, backups — without downloading everything to your local machine first. RcloneView handles the entire migration visually.

Connect MEGA and Your Destination

Connect MEGA and destination

Add your MEGA account and your destination (Google Drive, OneDrive, or any other provider) as remotes in RcloneView.

Migration Process

Step 1: Browse and plan

Open MEGA in one pane, your destination in the other. Review your MEGA folder structure and decide what goes where:

Browse MEGA alongside Google Drive

Step 2: Transfer in batches

For large MEGA accounts, transfer folder by folder rather than everything at once. This makes it easier to track progress and handle any issues:

Step 3: Verify completeness

After each batch, use Folder Comparison to confirm that everything transferred correctly:

Step 4: Handle MEGA-specific considerations

  • MEGA bandwidth limits: MEGA enforces download bandwidth limits on free accounts. Paid accounts have higher limits. Plan accordingly for large migrations.
  • Encrypted files: If you used MEGA's encryption, files transfer as-is. Consider whether you also need crypt remotes on the destination.
  • Shared folders: Files shared with you may not be transferable. Contact the owner or download them separately.

Schedule Large Migrations

For multi-terabyte MEGA accounts, schedule the migration to run overnight over several days:

Getting Started

  1. Download RcloneView from rcloneview.com.
  2. Add MEGA and your destination cloud as remotes.
  3. Transfer folder by folder for manageable batches.
  4. Verify with Folder Comparison after each batch.
  5. Keep MEGA active until the migration is fully verified.

Clean exit, clean start.
