Manage FTP Server Storage — Sync and Backup Files with RcloneView

RcloneView turns your FTP server into a first-class remote — browse, sync, and back up its files visually alongside Google Drive, S3, and 90+ other cloud providers.

FTP remains the backbone of countless web hosting environments, legacy media archives, and internal file distribution servers. Managing FTP files usually means juggling terminal sessions, manual directory listings, and hand-crafted scripts. RcloneView treats your FTP server exactly like any cloud storage account — you get a consistent visual interface for browsing, transferring, and backing up files without touching the command line.

Connecting Your FTP Server in RcloneView

Open the Remote tab and click New Remote. From the provider list, choose FTP and enter your server's hostname or IP address, port, username, and password. If your server supports FTPS (FTP over TLS), you can enable it in the advanced options for an encrypted connection.

Once saved, the FTP remote appears in the explorer panel alongside your cloud accounts. You can expand its folder tree, browse sub-directories, and view file names, sizes, and modification timestamps — the same experience you get with Amazon S3 or Dropbox.

Browsing and Transferring FTP Files Visually

RcloneView's multi-pane explorer is where FTP management becomes efficient. Open your FTP remote in one panel and a cloud destination — a Backblaze B2 bucket, a Google Drive folder, or an Amazon S3 prefix — in the other. Drag and drop files between panes to initiate a copy. Use Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click for multi-selection when moving batches of assets. Right-click to rename, delete, create folders, or get folder sizes.

For web agencies that maintain client files on an FTP server and need to archive them to object storage, or for media teams distributing assets from an FTP host to multiple cloud CDN providers, this side-by-side view replaces error-prone manual workflows.

Creating Sync Jobs Between FTP and Cloud Storage

For repeatable workflows, RcloneView's Job Manager lets you configure sync or copy jobs between your FTP server and any cloud destination. The 4-step wizard covers source and destination selection, advanced settings (concurrent transfers, checksum verification), and filter rules (file type, size limit, age threshold).

Run a Dry Run first — it previews every file that would be copied or deleted without making any changes. This is especially useful for FTP sources where directory structures may be complex or where unintended overwrites could cause issues.

After each run, the Job History tab shows execution time, transfer speed, file count, and final status — giving you a clear audit trail of what moved and when.

With a PLUS license, you can attach cron-style schedules to FTP sync jobs — backing up new uploads every night or syncing to cloud storage on a weekly cadence, all without leaving a session open.

Getting Started

  1. Download RcloneView from rcloneview.com.
  2. Open Remote > New Remote and select FTP from the provider list.
  3. Enter your server host, port, username, and password, then save the remote.
  4. Open your FTP remote in one panel and a cloud destination in the other.
  5. Use Job Manager to configure a sync job and run a Dry Run before the first live transfer.

Connecting your FTP server to RcloneView means never writing another sync script — every transfer is tracked, repeatable, and auditable from a single interface.
