Manage Linode Object Storage — Sync and Backup Files with RcloneView
RcloneView connects to Linode Object Storage via S3-compatible API, giving developers and DevOps teams a visual file manager for their Linode buckets without touching the CLI.
Linode Object Storage (now part of Akamai Cloud) is an S3-compatible object storage service tightly integrated with Linode's compute platform. Teams running applications on Linode Linodes often store static assets, database backups, and deployment artifacts in Object Storage. RcloneView's S3 backend connects seamlessly, giving you a visual interface for browsing buckets, running scheduled syncs, and migrating data between Linode regions or to other providers.

Manage & Sync All Clouds in One Place
RcloneView is a cross-platform GUI for rclone. Compare folders, transfer or sync files, and automate multi-cloud workflows with a clean, visual interface.
- One-click jobs: Copy · Sync · Compare
- Schedulers & history for reliable automation
- Works with Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, S3, WebDAV, SFTP and more
Free core features. Plus automations available.
Connecting Linode Object Storage to RcloneView
Linode Object Storage uses an S3-compatible API. In RcloneView, go to Remote tab → New Remote → Amazon S3 Compatible and select Other or configure manually with:
- Access Key — generated in the Linode Cloud Manager under Object Storage → Access Keys
- Secret Key — shown once at creation time
- Endpoint — region-specific, for example
us-east-1.linodeobjects.comoreu-central-1.linodeobjects.com
Once saved, your Linode buckets appear in the Explorer panel. You can browse objects, upload files via drag-and-drop, download selected objects to local storage, and use the right-click menu for standard file operations.
Automating Linode Backups with Scheduled Jobs
A common workflow: Linode servers generate application logs, database dumps, and user-uploaded files that need regular backup to a secondary location. Use RcloneView's Job Manager to create a scheduled Sync job from your Linode Object Storage bucket to Backblaze B2 or Amazon S3, providing cross-provider redundancy.
Configure the sync to run daily at 4:00 AM, with concurrent transfers set to 8 for maximizing throughput. Enable checksum verification to confirm data integrity across providers. The Job History tab logs every run with status, file count, transfer size, and duration — useful for demonstrating backup compliance in regulated environments.
Cross-Region and Cross-Provider Transfers
Linode Object Storage is available in multiple regions (US, EU, JP, AU). When you need to replicate a bucket from us-east-1 to eu-central-1 for geographic redundancy, set up two Linode remotes in RcloneView (one per region) and create a Sync job between them. This is a fully cloud-to-cloud transfer — no local staging required, and RcloneView handles it through rclone's server-side copy mechanism where supported.
For migrations away from Linode Object Storage to another provider entirely (e.g., moving to Cloudflare R2 for zero-egress costs), the same approach applies: add both as remotes and create a one-time Sync job.
Getting Started
- Download RcloneView from rcloneview.com.
- Generate Object Storage access keys in the Linode Cloud Manager.
- Add a new S3-compatible remote in RcloneView with your Linode credentials and endpoint.
- Create a Sync job in Job Manager to automate backups to your preferred secondary storage.
Linode Object Storage, managed through RcloneView, becomes a well-monitored component of your cloud infrastructure — with scheduled backups, cross-region replication, and a full audit trail.
