Migrate Google Drive to Proton Drive — Transfer Files Securely with RcloneView

Move your files from Google Drive to Proton Drive without the command line — and verify every byte arrived safely.

Privacy-conscious users are increasingly migrating away from Google Drive to Proton Drive to benefit from end-to-end encryption and Swiss-based data sovereignty. Whether you're a journalist protecting sources, a business handling sensitive client data, or simply someone reclaiming control over personal files, moving gigabytes of data manually is impractical. RcloneView provides a visual, GUI-based workflow to transfer all your files between the two services efficiently and verifiably.

Connecting Google Drive and Proton Drive in RcloneView

Google Drive connects via OAuth — click New Remote in the Remote tab, select Google Drive, and complete a browser-based login. No API keys or manual token handling are required; RcloneView handles the OAuth flow automatically.

Proton Drive requires your email address, password, and optionally a two-factor authentication code. In the New Remote wizard, select Proton Drive, enter your credentials, and RcloneView's embedded rclone backend establishes the connection. The minimum supported rclone version for Proton Drive is v1.69+, which RcloneView bundles by default. Once both remotes appear in the Explorer panels, you can browse your Google Drive and Proton Drive directory trees side by side.

Using Folder Compare to Audit Before Migrating

Before initiating the transfer, use RcloneView's Folder Compare feature to audit the source and destination. Launch it from the Home tab, point the left panel at your Google Drive root and the right panel at the target Proton Drive folder. The comparison view highlights files that exist only on the left (not yet migrated), files that exist only on the right, and any size discrepancies.

This step is particularly valuable when resuming an interrupted migration: you immediately see what made it across and can focus the transfer job on only the remaining delta — avoiding expensive re-transfers of data that already arrived safely.

Running the Migration Job

With remotes connected and folders compared, open the Job Manager and create a new Copy or Sync job. Set your Google Drive folder as the source and the corresponding Proton Drive folder as the destination. In the Advanced Settings step, enable checksum to compare files by hash rather than size alone — this is especially important for Proton Drive, where the encrypted storage format means file sizes reported by the API may differ slightly.

The Transferring tab in the bottom panel shows live transfer progress: file count, data moved, and transfer speed. If the job is interrupted by a network drop, simply run it again — rclone's transfer logic skips files that already match and picks up where it left off.

Scheduling Ongoing Sync During a Transition Period

If your team is in a gradual transition and colleagues continue adding files to Google Drive, you can schedule a recurring sync job to keep Proton Drive up to date. With a PLUS license, the Schedule step in the job wizard accepts crontab-style rules — for example, a nightly sync at 2 AM ensures new files flow to Proton Drive automatically without manual intervention.

RcloneView's Job History records every execution: start time, duration, files transferred, speed, and final status (Completed / Errored / Canceled). This gives you an auditable record of the entire migration timeline and makes it easy to confirm when the cutover is complete.
