Back Up Local Client Folders to the Cloud

Suppose a two-person practice keeps client folders on a local disk, one per client per year. Add a cloud remote such as Backblaze B2, Amazon S3, or OneDrive in New Remote, then open the local folder in one Explorer panel and the cloud destination in the other.

Use the Sync wizard to create a job from the local folder to the bucket. Name it something like clients-2026, and use Advanced Settings to enable checksum comparison so changed files are detected by hash and size, not only by timestamp.

Encrypt Sensitive Documents Before Upload

Returns contain names, identification numbers, and bank details. RcloneView supports Crypt virtual remotes, which encrypt file names, folder names, and contents before they reach the provider. Create a Crypt remote that wraps your bucket path, then point the sync job at the Crypt remote instead of the raw bucket. Keep the crypt password somewhere safe outside the same cloud account; without it, the backup cannot be decrypted.

Schedule Seasonal Backups and Review History

During filing season, changes happen daily. Scheduling is a PLUS feature: use the crontab-style Step 4 to run the job each evening, and use Simulate schedule to preview the next execution times. On the FREE license you can still run the same job manually with one click from the Job Manager.

Job History lists each run with its status, duration, size, and file count, so you can show that backups ran on the nights that mattered. Run Dry Run before any one-way sync to see what would be copied or deleted.

Verify Before You Archive the Season

At the end of the season, open Compare with the local folder on the left and the cloud copy on the right. Filter for left-only or different files to find anything missing, then copy it across. Once the comparison is clean, you can clear space on the office machine.
