Fix pCloud Sync Errors — Resolve Common pCloud Issues with RcloneView

pCloud sync failures are almost always caused by one of a handful of known issues — here is how to diagnose and fix the most common ones in RcloneView.

pCloud is a privacy-focused cloud storage provider with servers in both the United States and Europe, and that regional split is the root cause of many mysterious sync failures. When combined with OAuth token expiry and API rate limits, pCloud can generate confusing errors that seem unrelated to the actual problem. This guide walks through the most common pCloud issues encountered in RcloneView and how to resolve each one.

OAuth Token Expiry and Re-Authorization

pCloud uses OAuth for authentication, which means RcloneView holds an access token that expires periodically. When the token expires, sync jobs will fail with authentication errors such as 401 Unauthorized or invalid_token. The fix is straightforward: go to your remote list in RcloneView, select the pCloud remote, and choose Re-authorize (or delete and re-create the remote). This triggers a fresh OAuth flow in your browser, issuing a new valid token.

To avoid repeated re-authorization interruptions, ensure that your pCloud remote in RcloneView is created with the correct server region selected (see below). A region mismatch can cause tokens to appear valid but fail on actual API calls, which looks identical to token expiry.

Europe vs US Server Region Mismatch

This is the most common pCloud-specific issue. pCloud accounts created in Europe are hosted on European servers (eapi.pcloud.com), while US accounts use the default US endpoint (api.pcloud.com). If you created a pCloud account with a European region but RcloneView is configured to use the US endpoint, every API call will fail.

When setting up a pCloud remote in RcloneView, look for the Hostname or API Endpoint field during configuration. For European accounts, set this to eapi.pcloud.com. If your remote was created without specifying this, delete it and re-create it with the correct hostname. This single fix resolves the vast majority of pCloud connection failures.

API Rate Limits and Slow Uploads

pCloud enforces API rate limits, particularly for free-tier accounts. When you hit these limits, rclone will receive errors like too many requests or transfers will slow dramatically. RcloneView respects rclone's built-in retry logic, but you can tune it further by adjusting the --retries and --retries-sleep flags in the Global Rclone Flags setting.

For slow uploads specifically, pCloud's free tier has bandwidth restrictions that are separate from rate limiting. Consider splitting large sync jobs into smaller batches using filter rules, or scheduling jobs during off-peak hours with a PLUS license schedule. If uploads time out frequently, adding --timeout 300s to your global flags gives transfers more time to complete before rclone considers them failed.

Getting Started

  1. Download RcloneView from rcloneview.com.
  2. If you see authentication errors, re-authorize your pCloud remote in the remote settings panel.
  3. Check whether your pCloud account is EU-region and update the endpoint to eapi.pcloud.com if needed.
  4. For rate-limit errors, add --retries 10 --retries-sleep 30s to Global Rclone Flags in preferences.
  5. Run a dry run before each sync to confirm the remote is reachable and the correct files are in scope.

Most pCloud sync problems in RcloneView are resolved with one of these steps — the region endpoint fix alone accounts for the majority of reported failures.
